Is Astrology superstition?
To the extent that it lacks scientific rigour and the ability of being validated by scientific observation and experiment,it will continue to be in the domain of superstition.However,purely on a statistical basis I have seen it working.Good astrologers have used predictive analytic tools in their own ways(akin to regression models) to mine large amount of horoscopic data to come out with trends and patterns which do work many times in predicting events.Astrologers can be likened to the technical analysts of the stock market who generally have a better success rate than fundamental analysts.Eventhough predictive success can be coincidental in many cases,it can certainly help people broadly know the shape of things to come to prevent impending disasters if any.

If you are a firm believer in astrology then you need to also believe that anything that got to happen does happen. So, what good can astrology do to us?
Probably it can give us the direction to go ahead or choose among options. Apart from these I guess astrology cannot help us more.

I am Deepak. I am friend of Subhashini. I saw your blog url in orkut. I would like to give me thoughts. Astrology is an intelligent science. It is based on certain truths which we cannot understand logically but we know it is true. The problem is not with astrology but how it is used. I understand one of your favorite books is 'Power of Now'. My life was in turmoil and accidentally I got a chance to know 'Power of Now'. I read and I am different person now. I have also read the 'The New Earth' as you know my life has changed totally. So now I/you know the real problems. All the problems occur because of the egoic/disfunctional mind and by being present; the challenges of life can be faced and resolved. So now the problem comes with how people take the advice from astrologers. If the astrologer says you future will be happy, people associate it with more money and start living on positive hope and they take efforts to do things by certain clarity of thought. Good things then generally happen because for brief period of time, they are open to the present moment and are receptive to the things that are happening around them. After a few months/years they get the success they worked for and are then the problems again start. Because they are worried that the success will go away. For the people whom the astrologers say your future is not good, it is more dangerous. Here they will look everything suspiciously and fear will creep in everything they do. The astrologer then says you do a certain Puja and your problems will be solved. So they spend time/money and do it and then they believe the problems will be solved and then the cycle for the first case will repeat again.
It is true and I believe astrology works, because astrology is a science of mind wherein the olden day gurus/rishis knew the pattern of human mind very well and knew this process through which the mind operates. So through saying the hymns/process of the specific prayer where we construct the holy fire, the mind of the people involved in the puja tends to change together. They tend to know about the period when the mind will typically change and when real change in a person’s life happens. It is also true that there is an effect on the human mind by the planetary rotations which generate a magnetic/electric field which effects the human mind and it effects the human mind from the time of birth.
So I would say astrology is a beautiful science which has worked miraculously for a long unknown period of time and has developed slowly. The people have to know the truth behind astrology to really appreciate it/which is not happening and which is the real problem. This problem has solved for some people but largely people are still unaware. This is the situation currently and might change some day.
Astrology is based on fundamental observation of the mind and through countless experiments which is beyond comprehension. However the belief of parrots showing your future also seems unbelievable but could be true. Surely I would not ask a parrot to tell me future. I do not look forward to the future because by reading these books the Truth has been revealed to me. However I still know I will do lots of conscious things which will bring change in our planet.

relating approach of astrologer to way of doing of stock analyst is quite insightful for me as i had belief that astrology was superstition.
